"Where Do We Come From? Where Are We Going?"

Art on Istanbul will host the "Where Do We Come From? Where Are We Going?" thematic group exhibition until Sept. 12. As the title suggests, the exhibition comprises a selection of early and recent works by the invited artists. When artistic production is considered as continuity, it is natural to see common features, overlapping themes and similar styles in between every creative artist's starting point and the artistic stance he adopts in current times. These common grounds save creative artistic production from being repetitive and place it on the focal point of different creative and narrative trials. The title of the exhibition and conceptual framework are influenced by İlhan Berk's poetry book "Atlas" (1976). Regarded as one of the most important representations of Modern Turkish Poetry, Berk painted and worked on patterns and scratches along with his main occupation. His "poetics" which he fictionalized together with his poetry and paintings was based on the continuity of artistic production. This points out to the existence of a structure that focuses on the terms "beginning" and "continuity." At this point, the "Where Do We Come From? Where Are We Going?" exhibition opens the doors of change and differentiation for visitors by bringing together early and later works of each artist. When: Sept. 12 Where: Art On Istanbul
