Sicilian mafia boss Pino Scaduto, accused of ordering his son to kill his own sister to "re-establish honor in the family," has been arrested.

Scaduto, who controls the Bagheria ring near Sicily's capital of Palermo, reportedly ordered his daughter's murder because she had a relationship with a policeman and "had become a cop."

According to the report, the mafia chief hatched the plan in jail, clues of which investigators found in correspondence about a specific "gift" for the daughter.

Upon his release from jail, Scaduto senior directed his son to carry out the plan, but was turned down. The son, already accused of murder, refused, saying he didn't want to "be burned for doing it" and go to prison.

The Godfather tried to find another killer but no one else wanted to get involved, saying it was a family issue.

Police said Scaduto thought his daughter's relationship with the senior Italian police officer had led to his arrest in 2008, in the midst of his effort to reform Costra Nostra's governing council, the Cupola, according to the Independent.

Scaduto was released from jail in April but was re-arrested Tuesday along with 15 other associates.

The mafia boss was also allegedly planning the murder of his daughter's boyfriend.
