A young woman is walking down a staircase in the Berlin subway. Suddenly, a man brutally kicks her in the back, and the woman falls down the steps. Now the surveillance video was made public.

The footage of the brutal attack against the woman in Berlin-Neukölln, which took place on Oct. 27 and was made public by the Bild newspaper published last Wednesday, has caused public outrage.

In the video, a woman enters the frame walking down the stairs to the platform in the Hermannstrasse subway station. Four young men suddenly appear. One of them, with holding a cigarette and a beer bottle in his hands, approaches behind the woman. He gets a little faster, in the middle of the stairs he suddenly raises his right leg and suddenly kicks the unsuspecting woman from her back.

She lands on her face and upper body on the lowest step of the staircase. The perpetrator observes the fall, pulls his cigarette and moves away with his companions. They walk away in a completely relaxed manner.

Police and prosecutor's office have been investigating the attack as it constitutes an act of dangerous bodily injury. To this date, however, neither the footage of the attack nor individual images of the suspects were made public, which could have helped the police with possible tip-offs.

According to a spokeswoman of the Berlin police, a public inquiry is always the last means and first all other possibilities should be used. Therefore, it is usual for pictures or footage of a criminal act to be published after weeks or months after it takes place, and it is decided by a judge or prosecutor.
