Paris Bataclan venue reopens after 2015 terror attacks

The Bataclan concert hall in Paris is to reopen a day before the first anniversary of the Nov. 13 terror attacks in the city. Sting, who headed up hit pop music band The Police before a long solo career, announced the news, saying on his website that the show would seek to honor those killed and the historic venue that is reopening after a year of renovation. "In doing so we hope to respect the memory as well as the life affirming spirit of those who fell. We shall not forget them," said the 65-year-old singer, who added that proceeds from the Nov. 12 concert would go to charities catering to victims of the attacks of Nov 13, 2015.

The announcement is a major boost for the venue which had reportedly been struggling to attract big names back to perform there, fearful of the emotional weight of the occasion.

Ninety people were killed in the Bataclan when terrorists linked to Daesh opened fire on the concert crowd and detonated explosives. Further attacks on restaurants and the Stade de France left a total of 130 dead and scores wounded.
