German man turns himself in 2 years after robbery for fresh start to 2016

Two years after robbing a bakery in the small German town of Itzehoe and getting away scot-free, a young robber decided to make amends by turning himself in, police said Monday.Police spokeswoman Merle Neufeld said the man apparently wanted to start the new year with good intentions and a clear conscience. He robbed the bakery in the northern state of Schleswig-Hostein in February 2014 when he was 18 years old, getting away with cash and spending it on drugs, police said. But on Christmas Day this year his regrets became too much and he surrendered to police who until then had no clue as to his guilt. The unidentified young man will enter 2016 with a clear conscience and a court date on charges of armed robbery.
