ATHENS — Syrian immigrant Nebil Yusuf Murad has won Sunday's local elections in the Andravida-Killini municipality in the Peloponnese peninsula of southern Greece, preliminary results show.
Murad came to Greece 25 years ago and has served last three terms as alderman.
"For me there is no winner or loser", Murad told local media. "Starting from tomorrow our aim is that altogether we will work for the future of the city and to serve our citizens".
Andravida-Killini has a population of nearly 21,000 citizens, including a large immigrant worker base. Andravida-Killini is 260 kilometres west of Athens.
