EU Delegation to celebrate unity with EU states, candidate countries on Europe Day
Turkey has been celebrating Europe Day since 1999, after the EU recognized the country's candidate status. The EU Delegation to Turkey has organized a series of events to celebrate the occasion on Sunday May 8 with the attendance of delegation head, Hansjörg Haber, and ambassadors from a number of EU countries.This year the European delegation aims to emphasize belief in living together in harmony as they merged the May 9 Europe Day celebration with Mother's Day celebrations at Cer-Modern in Ankara. Europe Day is celebrated in all EU member states and candidate countries. It marks the anniversary of the 1950 declaration authored by Robert Schuman, one of the founders of the EU, who expressed his vision of bringing together European countries under a single union.Sunday's event will include a series of musical performances, including a concert by Tatavla Keyfi, a band that performs Balkan folk songs, Sephardic compositions, İzmir's Greek minores and Greek mourmourikos. There will also be two exclusive kitchen workshops to learn more about European cuisine, the event will include special activities especially for children.
