Turkey ready to take giant steps in energy

The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak held three meetings with the deputies and informed them on the middle and long term energy projects planned. When asked about the recent power cuts, Albayrak noted that they were mostly due to lack of infrastructure and that in order to renew the infrastructure the ministry will be investing TL 18 billion in order to modernize 85 percent of the physical infrastructure within the next five years.

According to the information obtained from the deputies, a three-faced mechanism including the Ministry, the Energy Market Regulation Board (EPDK) and TEDAŞ will be inspecting all investments. Increasing storage capacity to ensure the security of natural gas supplies is one of the priorities and in this respect, the Underground Storage Project in Aksaray will be completed, the 2.6 billion meter cube capacity of the facility in Silivri will be increased to 4.3 billion meter cube and a new LNG storage plant is to be established.

Albayrak also answered questions of the deputies regarding nuclear energy and noted that Turkey not to benefit from nuclear energy cannot even be considered and therefore, state of the art nuclear plants will be established with the Technologies of 2020 as nuclear energy is crucial for the security of energy supply.

Albayrak also noted that in terms of investments, local and renewable energy resources will be prioritized and resources will be diversified.
