According to a press release, loans and borrowing in favor of Greece have brought Germany profits of around 1.34 billion euros.

According to the Southern Germany-based daily Süddeutsche Zeitung, the earning is the result of the Bundesfinanzministerium's (Germany's finance ministry) replies to questions from the Greens in the Bundestag. According to the reply provided by the finance ministry, a loan from KfW, the state development bank, led to interest income of 393 million euros. The German profit share from a European Central Bank's borrowing program has since 2015 totaled 952 million euros.

The Greens demand that interest income be paid to Greece. "It may be legal that Germany deserves the crisis in Greece. It is not legitimate in the moral sense of solidarity," the paper quoted the Greens budget expert Sven-Christian Kindler.
