PM: Presidential system is biggest structural reform

Speaking to the economy editors of national newspapers, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said the biggest structural reform will be to switch to the presidential system, which will ensure stability. After achieving an economic transition by jumping from the lower-middle income bracket to the high-middle income bracket, which helped Turkey's income per capita increase by 48.6 percent in the last 10 years, the country's businessmen and economists are now looking for a new phase in economic reforms. The country's income per capita is around $10,500, whereas the economic targets eye far higher levels. The government aims to reach $25,000 in income per capita by 2023, which is the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic. Although there have been disagreements on the best way to the top, all sides, including political parties, economists, global organizations and businessmen agree that the country needs structural reforms for the next jump. The government has engaged in structural reforms to ease bureaucracy for investors and support economic growth. According to the country's prime minister, the biggest structural reform would be the presidential system. The most important benefit of the presidential system is to ensure permanent stability with single-party governance, Yıldırım noted.According to research and experts, single-party governments are more likely to be successful in economy thanks to sped-up decision-making processes.
