Turkey's unemployment rate increases to 9.6 percent in June


Turkey's unemployment rate announced at 9.6 percent in June, increasing from 9.3 from previous month, according to Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) data released on Tuesday.The number of unemployed people over the age of 15 increased from 2.789 million to 2.880 million in the same period and increased by 226,000 compared to the same month of previous year. In the twelve month period, unemployment rate increased by 0.5 percent.Non-agricultural unemployment was announced as 11.7 percent with a 0.6 percent increase to June 2014. Youth unemployment, covering the age span from 15 to 24, increased by 1 percent and reached 17.7 percent.Number of employed people over the age of fifteen increased by 675,000 in the twelve month period and reached 27.261 million. Employment rate increased by 0.4 percent and reached 47.1 percent. Non-agricultural employment drove this increase by 613,000 new jobs created, with 51 percent employed in services sector, followed by 22 percent with agriculture, 19.7 percent with industry and 7.3 percent with construction.Labor force participation rate (LFPR) increased by 0.8 percent and reached to 52.1 percent. Turkey's labor force was announced 30,141 million with an increase of 901.000 compared to June 2014. LFPR was announced as 72.4 percent for male and 32.3 percent for female labor force, with an increase of 1.4 for the latter compared to same month of previous year.The ratio unregistered workers was announced 34.6 percent with a 1.8 percent decrease. Seasonally adjusted employment increased by 19,000 people and reached 26.621 million with 46 percent employment rate. Seasonally adjusted unemployment increased by 83,000 people with 10.4 unemployment rate. Seasonally adjusted LFPR was announced as 51.4 percent.
