Oyak acquires Dutch Almatis
Oyak, which became the world leader in the stabilizer sector by acquiring Akdeniz Kimya in 2012 and Austria-based Chemson in 2013, has now taken the leading position in the world alumina industry by buying Dutch company Almatis. Oyak announced that it signed a share transfer agreement with Almatis and the products of the company, which are used in the iron and steel, cement, ceramic, automotive and electronic industries.
The Netherlands-based Almatis has four factories and one refinery in the United States, one factory in Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, China and India as well as sales offices in Brazil, Germany, India, Japan and China. It is in the leading position in its sector in the world. Almatis is two times larger than its closest competitor. It provides employment for 1,140 people. The number of people working in Almatis and Chemson, which was bought by Oyak, has more than 2,000 employees and the total annual turnover of the two companies is above $1.1 billion. Oyak didn't share any information about the purchase price. With this acquisition, Oyak now operates in 56 spots in 20 countries in the world. Erdemir, which is a subsidiary of Oyak, announced a while ago that it would start to produce steel used in the automotive sector. The acquisition of Almatis, which operates in the steel production sector in addition to many other sectors, came after the announcement by Erdemir. Almatis, which was under the roof of the world aluminum giant Alcoa, has been operated by Dubai International Capital since 2007.
