Turkey’s July unemployment announced 9.8 pct, with slight increase


Turkey's unemployment rate increased by 0.7 percent, becoming 9.8 percent in July 2014, the Turkish Statistics Institute (Turkstat) announced on Wednesday.

According to TurkStat's data, 2.8 million people were announced unemployed for those aged over 15, with 8.8 percent for males and 12 percent for females. Non-agricultural unemployment rate was announced as 12 percent for the same period.For the same group, employment rate was announced as 46.3 percent with 26.4 million persons employed, 65.9 percent for males and 27.2 percent for females.Youth unemployment rate including 15-24 age group was announced as 18.2 percent.Agricultural employment was announced as 5.9 million people and non-agricultural employment was announced as 20.4 million people.Labour force participation rate (LFPR) was announced as 51.3 percent with 29.2 million people, 72.3 percent for males and 30.8 percent for females.36.4 percent of Turkish labor force were announced working unregistered to any social security agency or program, mainly in agriculture sector with 84 percent.
