ISTANBUL — Turkish Airlines increased its first-quarter net income by 43 percent compared to a year earlier despite posting a loss of $110 million, the carrier announced in a statement on Friday.The company's sales rose to $2.4 billion during the first three months of the year from $1.7 million earned during 2013's first quarter, the statement said.The net loss of the carrier widened to $110 million from $10.5 million in the same period last year.The company said the deep loss was caused mainly by seasonal effects and currency fluctuations.Turkish Airlines today has 45 domestic flight routes and 206 flight legs to international destinations, and launch flights to 248 cities and 251 airports in 106 countries across the world. Having one of the youngest fleets of Europe, the company has a total of 249 airplanes including nine cargo planes.
