President Erdoğan meets with Australian governor-general


President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with Peter Cosgrove, the governor-general of Australia, on Tuesday at the Presidential Palace to discuss a series of subjects concerning both countries.

President Erdoğan, alongside his wife, Emine Erdoğan, welcomed Peter Cosgrove and his wife, Lynne Cosgrove, at the Presidential Palace in Ankara, followed by an official ceremony. The meeting between President Erdoğan and the governor-general lasted 50 minutes. Presidential spokesman İbrahim Kalın and Minister of Youth and Sports Akif Çağatay Kılıç attended the meeting as well. Additionally, First Lady Emine Erdoğan held a meeting alone with the governor-general's wife Lynne Cosgrove.

As a country working closely with Turkey, Australia shares Turkey's view on counterterrorism, Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop told Daily Sabah in June. "Australia is determined to prevent the inflow of foreign fighters and finance to this terrorist organization [the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS)]. We are working in very close cooperation with countries and Turkey is definitely one of them," she said.
