EP draws ire of Parliament over Armenian issue

The Parliament issued a notice after the European Parliament (EP) adopted the resolution that refers to the 1915 incidents, which Turkey brands as mass deportation which led to loss of Armenian lives, as "genocide" in a Wednesday session. The EP's decision, which urges Turkey and all EU member states to recognize the incidents as "genocide," has been countered by criticism revealed in a notice that reads: "We consider that the decision is ‘highly responsible' and feel sorry about it from every aspect. This inappropriate decision, which solely condones the pains of the Armenians, does not have validity on our part. We condemn such partial approach." Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has also broken his silence over the matter that triggered a harsh response from Turkish officials and rejected both the EP decision and Pope Francis's labeling of the 1915 incidents as "genocide" during his Sunday mass, for showing "political attitude." He said neither the EP decision nor the pope's remarks aim at thawing relations between the two communities. Kılıçdaroğlu said: "The matter should be taken up by adopting objective and scientific means rather than restricting such a multidimensional tragedy within the definition of ‘genocide.'"
