The distinction of my terrorist and your terrorist in the EU

The European Union contradicts its own criteria when it comes to Turkey and the Middle East. Boasting to be the apostle of democracy and human rights around the world, the EU is rapidly moving away from setting an example to the rest of the world with each passing day. It did not only fail in the refugee problem. It has such a bad record in the fight against terrorism that it cannot set any example to any other country in the world.

The EU and EU countries, which insist on regarding the fight against terrorism only as the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) in Turkey, Syria and Iraq, are making some big mistakes that they will not be able to compensate for in the future.

These wrongheaded policies, including cooperating with terrorists in Iraq and Syria, will pose great problems to EU countries one day. It is an affront to humanity that they take no steps against Syria's fascist dictator, Bashar Assad, whose forces have slaughtered thousands of Syrians, and they even cooperate with him on the pretext that he fights ISIS.

It would be useful to remind the EU politicians who have issued many statements and expressed sorrow for the drowned Syrian child that washed ashore, who reduced all of us to tears, that Assad is a dictator still terrorizing Syria due to the EU's indifference. He is a murderer who has killed thousands of children with gas and barrel bombs. Assad is no different than Slobodan Milosevic or Saddam Hussein.

However, for some reason EU countries still remain indifferent to Assad and his state terror. While complaining about the influx of Syrian refugees they are insistently ignoring the fact that Syrian refugees have to leave their country and embark on deadly journeys to the EU countries in order to save their own lives.

Likewise, the EU romantically refers to the Syrian wing of Turkey's outlawed PKK, the Democratic Union Party (PYD), and its armed People's Protection Units (YGP), as "Kurdish warriors," and does not abstain from providing all sorts of aid to the organization, which is terrorizing northern Syria. The claims alleging that the YPG fights ISIS is interestingly not brought to the agenda in any place other than the Kobani region. In spite of that, the PYD is still a nightmare to Turkmens.

Turkmens, who fight against Assad, are targeted by the PYD for some reason. It would be useful to ask why Assad left northern Syria to the PYD and YPG without shooting a single bullet at them and leaving all his soldiers and equipment in the region. I wonder if honest politicians in EU countries think about this.

The EU approach is even more desperate in Iraq and Turkey, the latter being a candidate for EU membership.

The PKK, which is headquartered in northern Iraq's Qandil Mountains, is being overtly supported by EU politicians in recent months. Why is the PKK backed up even though it is listed as a dangerous terrorist organization by the European Police Office (Europol) and national security and intelligence agencies of all EU countries, and in the presence of many reports documenting that the PKK poses a major problem to the EU in human and drug trafficking?

Although the PKK war barons who do not favor permanent peace in Turkey since they take advantage of war and drug and human trafficking, started to shed blood and terrorize the whole region, the only reaction from EU countries is to negotiate instead of fight, which is a hostile attitude.

Would it not be more normal if EU countries cooperated with Turkey against the PKK?

But the exact opposite of this has come true. Although Turkey informs the EU on hundreds of PKK militants and demands the return of those for whom Turkey has applied for international arrest warrants, it has not received a single positive answer from the EU.

Moreover, the PKK is also recognized as an illegal organization in some EU countries.

The PKK is now killing police and military officers and civilians in Turkey with weapons Germany provided to Iraqi Kurdestan Regional Government (KRG) peshmerga forces, which supposedly fight ISIS.

EU countries are treating the PKK as if it is not a terrorist organization. There is no single front where the PKK fights ISIS. The PKK is fighting against Turkey.

Despite that, EU countries still do not regard Assad, the PYD and the PKK as terrorists.

The EU should know that there is only one country that fights terror in Syria, Iraq and Turkey, does not make any distinction between terrorist groups and adopts a strict stance against all terrorists since it is aware of the fact that terrorism is a major crime against humanity. This country is Turkey.

The EU public should also know that terrorists cannot be friends. Supported terrorist organizations might trouble the supporting country one day.

In democracies there is no such a distinction as my terrorist or your terrorist.

I think the EU public should control their politicians more effectively before it is too late.
