The ruling party, which has been in power for 13 years in Turkey, has not yet shown any sign of exhaustion as is expected or hoped. This stems from the fact that the ruling party still preserves its feature of being an opposition movement. For 13 years, the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) has been wrongly analyzed by opponents. With arrogant manners, some properties and weaknesses, which the AK Party does not actually have, have been attributed to the party, which guaranteed the failure of the opposition. The Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) could have been a breath of fresh air in this respect. However, it has created great disappointment by joining the alliance against popular will to revive the Turkey of old instead of answering this demand of the public. The AK Party's stance against the military memorandum of April 27 was a breaking point for the party, while the breaking point for the HDP is the call for an uprising that led to the Oct. 6-8 incidents, which is a breaking point in a negative sense, for sure. With this choice on April 27, the AK Party proved that it had the courage and wisdom to blaze the trail of the New Turkey project. But the HDP could not resist the memorandum that commanded an uprising. Instead of siding with peace and civil politics, it merged into dark and deep tunnels by following the dream of the North Korean model that the outlawed PKK adopted. The party thus proved to religious and secular Kurds that it is not competent to provide peace. If the HDP had reacted against this call of uprising on Oct. 6-8 it would be supported as a constituent element of the New Turkey without the worries of passing the election threshold. But now the HDP has turned into an element that is supported by a "high-card" alliance in every respect to revive the old Turkey. It is not possible to inspire affection from or instill confidence in the public with negative, pro-conflict language. The HDP has revived and recreated the pro-coup slogan that was popular following the Feb. 28 coup: "He cannot even become a village headman." Its recent slogan reads: "We won't allow you to be a president." But the HDP is well aware of the fact that a presidential system is not the individual cause of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, but a step required for independence. Erdoğan is a leader elected with 52 percent of the popular vote, and those assaulting him also assault popular will. So the HDP's slogan actually connotes, "We won't allow the people's rule of this country." After turning its back on civil politics, the HDP started to table some engineering projects. The method was evident as the AK Party and Erdoğan started to be seen as enemies, aspiring to create hatred for Erdoğan. But the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) is already in the running of this hatred. So how is the HDP supposed to pass the 10 percent election threshold? How could it receive the votes of Alevis and conservative Kurds at the same time? This could only be possible through positive politics, which would render fighting with the AK Party meaningless. For this reason, the HDP has started to stagger. When it began to attack religion in order to appeal to the obsessed secularists, it lost conservative Kurds. And it hit the wall when it tried to appeal to conservative Kurds with a pro-Kurdish discourse and threats. It progressed with spoiling all its grounds since it has not followed a certain line to its natural course. There is no difference between the motivations of conservative Kurds voting for the HDP with pro-Kurdish tendencies and conservative Turks voting for the CHP in the name of nationalism. This is nonsensical and it contradicts social and political realities. It was forgotten that the AK Party ended the denial of Kurds with an ethical and just behavior, the AK Party government is the only guarantee of peace in the future and that the decline of the AK Party would be a counterrevolution. Consequently, the HDP's war against the AK Party with a prevalent Gülenist and CHP discourse has started to return like a boomerang. As I have already said, elements within the HDP will also fall into their place with the election results. Their failure will not be a disaster since it will require them to study their lessons harder. Kurds cannot be taken hostage by presenting this as a disaster or a threat. So far we have overcome the Gezi Park incidents, the Dec. 17 and Dec. 25 judicial coup attempts and vandalisms on Oct. 6-8. Things will fall into place in Turkey thanks to the upcoming elections.
