What was attacked is Islam itself

After the attack on the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo in Paris, it is imperative to present a general perspective of the entangled issues of the West, terror, Islam and the Middle East. First and foremost, neither the law – the Quran and "sunnah" – nor the reason of Islam allows terrorist activities, and it is unacceptable that groups carry out terrorist activities in the name of Islam. This is the main opinion of any believer in common sense. Then, one may ask, from where does this violence emerge? It is possible to divide the peoples of the Islamic world into three major classes, and such classification can be considered to be both of a social and religious nature.I. The moderate ummah – the Muslim community: this social religious group, which constitutes the middle classes of the Islamic world, is composed of the peoples of each country that grew out of the traditions and madrasahs, comprehend the spirit of Islam, reflect their political stances through state institutions and democratic politics, appreciate the importance of a balanced religion and their motherland, and remain loyal to and are nourished by Islamic traditions and manners.II. Extremist groups: the terrorist groups did not come into being by themselves, but arose either with the strategic support of the West, or as a reflection of the anger formed against Western colonialism and occupations.III. The submissive groups: these groups are composed of the pro-mandate people that came into being during the first period of colonialism. It is our conviction that the first group is the indigenous one while the two other groups have emerged due to the fact that Western forces have preferred to work with violence-prone and pro-mandate extremist groups rather than the decent ummah. After the end of the Cold War, the phenomenon of al-Qaida, which emerged from the Afghan war waged by the Soviets, has reached an uncontrollable state due to the war in Iraq waged by the U.S. and thus, it has exceeded its region of influence in Afghanistan and taken root in many regions of the world. Today, al-Qaida has turned into a force that is no longer controllable by the U.S. or Saudi Arabia. The Syrian civil war has brought about the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) as a new model of violence. The fact that the acts of this extremist group, which have nothing to do with Islam, and that its practices, which are harmful for the image of religion, appear in the global media, leads us to complicated questions regarding ISIS.When U.S. President Barrack Obama came to power, I had a chance to talk about the new world order with the experienced ambassador İnal Batu. In that meeting, as I recall, Batu said: "Palestine is like the heart of the world. After each and every serious development in the world, I look at Palestine and think that if Palestine bleeds then the world will continue bleeding as well."If we take Batu's point for the entirety of the Islamic world, the death toll has thus far reached 3 million in Afghanistan, 1 million in Iraq and 200,000 in Syria. The death of millions; wars and exile; children disabled by hunger, social traumas and desperations and entangled chaos have already prepared the ground for the emergence of any imaginable form of negativity and destruction. As we suppose that all the agents of intelligence run rampant everywhere, it is necessary to be aware of who is secretly supporting which terrorist movement. We condemn the slaughter in France. The designers of this slaughter aim to make Muslims ashamed of their religion just as is the case with ISIS. Occurring at the very moment when Muslims and Christians in Germany realized in solidarity a noble protest against racism, this terrorist attack might have been driven from many covert calculations. Therefore, we use the expression "what was attacked in France is Islam itself."
