The Insult

"The Insult" was directed by Ziad Doueiri and premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Kamel el-Basha, the leading actor in the film, also won best actor. The film tells a drama that includes a deep social criticism, reaching to the judicial system in Lebanon.

The French and Lebanese co-production features Adel Karam, Camille Salameh, Diamand Bou Abboud, Rita Hayek, Talal Jurdi, Christine Choueiri, Julia Kassar, Rifaat Torbey, Carlos Chahine, Georges Daoud, Christina Farah and Elie Njeim.

The story of the film, which was written by Doueiri and Joelle Touma, focuses on Lebanese Christian Tony. Tony leads an ordinary life with his wife. The foreman of the company that does the infrastructure work on his street is Palestinian Yasser, who lives in a refugee camp in Beirut. When Tony does not allow Yasser to do renovations to his house, tension starts between them. One day, Yasser breaks two of Tony's ribs two because of an insult. Shortly after the incident is brought to court, politicians are also involved and the hostility between the two men becomes a matter of the whole country.

Djam

Written and directed by Tony Gatlif, "Djam" tells the journey of a girl named Djam who is generous, self-confident, unpredictable and free-spirited.

The French drama features Daphne Patakia, Maryne Cayon, Simon Abkarian and Yannis Bostantzoglou.

Djam, a Greek girl, is sent to Istanbul on a mission to find a motorboat part of her uncle, a former sailor. In the city, she meets Avril, a French woman who works as a volunteer with refugees but who has run out of money. Djam leaves with Avril on a joyous journey full of music from Istanbul to Lesbos.

Rüzgar

"Rüzgar" (Wind) debuts this week starring Halil Sezai Paracıkoğlu and Belçim Bilgin in the leading roles.

Directed by Serkan Acar, the film also features Ataberk Mutlu, Nebil Sayın and Cezmi Baskın. The romantic comedy, which was written by Volkan Girgin, focuses on the story of a boy named Rüzgar. Having the nickname of a hound, Rüzgar is raised in a purse-snatching gang. After meeting Ece and Alper, he has a more hopeful future. However, the gang has no intention to stop following him.

Umut Avcıları

Directed by İlker Çavga, "Umut Avcıları" (Hope Hunters) tells the adventure of four friends named Cafer, Ahmet, Baki and Doğan, who want to be rich.

Written by Mehmet Sağlam, the comedy features Furkan Tezcan, Haydar Zeytünlü, Turgut Güneş, Kenan Balık and Belit Şentürk.

Coco

"Coco," the only animated film of the week, tells the adventure of 12-year-old Miguel to the Land of the Dead.

Directed by Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina, the U.S. production was voiced by Gael Garcia Bernal, Benjamin Bratt, Cheech Marin, Alanna Ubach and Edward James Olmos.
