Zekİ Demirkubuz's latest film "Kor" (Ember) has been nominated for three awards at the Asia-Pacific Screen Awards. The film will compete for best film as well as best director for Demirkubuz and best actress for Aslıhan Gürbüz.The 10th edition of the festival which is scheduled to take place on Nov. 24 in Brisbane, Australia stands out because of its jury. The competition jury is composed of five important film makers who previously won the Asia-Pacific Screen Award: Academy Award winner, British producer, Lord David Puttnam, Busan International Film Festival Chair Kim Dong-Ho, award-winning Hong Kong producer Nansun Shi, Palme d'Or and Academy Award winner, Australian producer, Jan Chapman and famous Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal are to evaluate the competition films.The Asia-Pacific region, which stretches from Egypt to the Cook Islands, Russia and New Zealand, and covers one third of the world's surface, is composed of 70 countries with a population of 4.5 billion. Covering an area where half of the entire world's film production takes place, the Asia Pacific Screen Awards reviewed 303 films from 43 countries.Demirkubuz retrospective in ThessalonikiSet to be organized between Nov. 3 and Nov. 12, the 57th Thessaloniki International Film Festival will screen a retrospective of Turkish director Zeki Demirkubuz's films. The retrospective, which will be featured in the Balkan Survey category, will be the first event where all of the director's 11 films will be screened apart from other mass screenings of the director's films at the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Anthology Film Archives, Brussels Cinematek, universities, museums and art centers.Moreover, the retrospective will feature the restored versions of Demirkubuz's films which were shot as 35mm negatives. The films have been restored entirely by Mavi Film and İzzet Murat Arslan, and transformed into a professional cinema screening format by Tuğushan Özdener from Matrislab.
