Bosnia and Herzegovina's Oscar nominee: Death in Sarajevo


The Bosnia and Herzegovina's Cinema Laborer's Association announced that "Death in Sarajevo," directed by the Oscar-winner Danis Tanovic, is an Oscar nominee for Bosnia-Herzegovina. "Death in Sarajevo" will compete at the 88th Academy Awards (Oscars) on Feb. 26 in the "Best Foreign Film" Category on behalf of Bosnia and Herzegovina.Starring Vedrana Seksan, Muhamed Hadzovic, İzudin Bajrovic, Senzana Vidovic and Edin Avdagic, "Death in Sarajevo" is acclaimed for its script and first aired at the 22nd Sarajevo Film Festival this year, which was organized between Aug. 12-21. Tanovic has attended the festival as well and stated that the film takes place in a famous motel in Sarajevo. "The film tells a 100-year-old story that caused the outbreak of the First World War. After Gavrilo Princip murdered the Archiduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo, the First World War started and this story is told with a different approach in the film. The effects of this action that started the First World War can still be seen in the modern day Sarajevo," said Tanovic. He added that the film also about daily life in Sarajevo and has various layers and blends and reflects many subjects on the same screen.The world premiere of the film had taken place at the Berlin International Film Festival and won the Golden Bear award. Tanovic's first feature-length film, "No Man's Land" had won the Oscar in the Best Foreign Film Category at the 74th Academic Awards in 2002.
