Organized in partnership with İş Bank Maximum Card and Mars Cinema Group, the 15th !f Istanbul Independent Film Festival continues to surprise movie buffs. The film festival will feature a special section titled "David Bowie" that will honor the late artist, who since the 1970s, has produced unforgettable works both in cinema and music and has affected the arts and fashion world with his style and attitude. The festival will screen two of Bowie's films that helped turn him into a cinema icon. The films will be screened with their re-mastered editions for the first time in Turkey.Adapted from Walter Tevis's namesake novel, "The Man Who Fell to Earth," will be the first Bowie film that will be featured at the 15th Istanbul Independent Film Festival. Directed by Nicolas Roeg, who is widely known for "Far from the Madding Crowd," "Bad Timing" and "Don't Look Now," the film recounts the story of an alien who comes to earth to save the drought planet but loses his soul as he spends too much time among the degenerate humanity. The film became a cult classic as soon as the film hit the theaters. "The Man Who Fell to Earth" competed in the Berlin Film Festival and Bowie won the Golden Scroll for "Best Actor" at the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films Awards. Tony Scott's "The Hunger" which brought a breath of fresh air to vampire-themed movies, will be the second movie to be featured at "David Bowie." The film received criticism when it first came into the theaters; however, it has since created its own fan base and became one of the most outstanding vampire movies of all time. Starring David Bowie, Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon, the film stands out with Bowie's performance as an old vampire. With its sterilized and dark atmosphere, "The Hunger" is a sexy and melancholic vampire film, even compared to today's standards.
