Tony Gatlif honorary jury head at Edirne Film Fest

Known for groundbreaking films such as ‘Vengo,' ‘Transylvania,' ‘Gadjo Dilo' and many others, French-Algerian director Tony Gatlif will be the head of Edirne Film Festival jury, which will be held between Nov. 20 and Nov. 26
French director Tony Gatlif will be the jury head at the international feature film competition at the International Edirne Film Festival, which takes place from Nov. 20 to Nov. 26 with contributions from the Edirne Governorship and Edirne Municipality. The festival's full program will be announced at a press meeting on Nov. 13 in Istanbul. There will be international and nation-wide film competitions, exhibitions, panels with filmmakers and film screenings for people with disabilities.

Gatlif is known for his films "Transylvania," "Korkoro" (Freedom), "Crazy Stranger" and "Indignados." His latest film, "Geronimo," is among the festival films. A film from the Balkans chosen by the jury committee will receive the Sunflower Best International Film Award and win 10,000 euros. Biket İlhan, the director of "Mavi Gözlü Dev" (A Giant with Blue Eyes) on late famous poet Nazım Hikmet, "Sokaktaki Adam" (The Man in Street) and "Ayın Karanlık Yüzü" (The Dark Side of the Moon), will be the jury head of the national film competition.

The Sunflower awards will be given in six different categories including best film, best director, best actress, best actor, best script and best cinematographer. A total of 140,000 euros in monetary awards will be distributed to the winners of the international and national film competition. Twenty films, including Michael Almereyda's 2015 production "The Experimenter," Jose Manuel Craviato's "Reversal," Ognjen Svilicic's "These Are the Rules" and Yared Zeleke's "Lamb," will make their Turkish debut at the festival. During the festival, the film "Ağrı Dağı Efsanesi" (The Legend of Mount Ararat), directed by actor, director and filmmaker Memduh Ün, who recently passed away at the age of 95, will be screened. An honorary award will be presented to Murat Soydan and Erol Ağakay, who designed over 3,000 posters for Yeşilçam film.
