The screen adaptation of Dan Brown's novel "Inferno" will start filming in Istanbul's Fatih district next month, said Mayor Mustafa Demir in a written statement. The film cast first headed to Budapest and will soon arrive in Istanbul to shoot action scenes at the Basilica Cistern. Director Ron Howard visited the city four times to choose the best places for shooting. The Grand Bazaar, Beyazıt Square, the front area of Istanbul University, Kennedy Street and Nuriosmaniye and the coastline will be the main venues. Demir said Istanbul's historic peninsula has become a center of attraction for the world film industry. "Fatih offers a natural film set. The municipality is working to sustain its historical pattern and protect its richness. We support the projects that will contribute to the country's promotion. Film companies prefer Fatih district," he said, adding the municipality gives every effort to introduce the city's values to the whole world. Demir said that he is ready to support the film cast. Starring Tom Hanks in the lead role, Inferno will be the third in the film series adapted from Dan Brown's novels. After "The Da Vinci Code" and "Angels and Demons," the adventure will continue with "Inferno," scheduled to be released next year. The city's historic district has previously hosted Hollywood film sets such as James Bond's "Skyfall," "Taken 2," "Two Faces of January," "The Water Diviner" and "Argo."
