Five new films premier in Turkish theaters this week
'8 Saniye' (8 Seconds)Turkish director Ömer Faruk Sorak's new film "8 Seconds" recounts the story of Esra İnal and how she retakes control of her life. While İnal plays herself in her own story, the author of the acclaimed novel "The Four Agreements," Don Miguel Ruiz, accompanies İnal. The film tells the story of Esra, a girl of Turkish-descent who was born in Berlin. Despite living in a male-dominated world her mistakes and the pressure that she has to face, Esra finds a way out from her vapid life and follows her dreams to become an independent woman. The film stars Fırat Çelik, Fahri Yardım, Mehmet Kurtuluş, Salih Kalyon, Sema Poyraz, Devrim Yakut, Şiir Eloğlu, İlknur Boyraz, Demet Gül, Leonie Benesch, Ralph Herforth, Constantin von Jascheroff and Grit Boettcher. Additionally, award-winning actor Yılmaz Erdoğan also appears as a guest star in the Turkish-German co-production.'Birdman'Starring Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, Naomi Watts, Zach Galifianakis, Andrea Riseborough and Emma Stone, "Birdman" won big at the 2015 Academy Awards, including winning Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography. The black comedy, which tells the story of a washed-up actor who tries to shine once again, was directed by the acclaimed Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu who directed "Biutiful," "21 Grams," "Babel" and "Amores Perros."'The Theory of Everything'Directed by James Marsh, "The Theory of Everything" stars the Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning British actor Eddie Redmayne along with Felicity Jones, Charlie Cox and Emily Watson. The drama centers on the life of famous physicist Stephen Hawking, who is regarded as one of the most intelligent people in the world, and his wife.'Love is Strange'After nearly four decades together, Ben and George finally decide to get married. Following their honeymoon, when George loses his long-time job as a teacher, the couple must sell their little apartment in Chelsea, New York. The French-American co-production, which is promoted with the motto: "Sometimes staying together means staying apart," stars Alfred Molina, John Lithgow, Marisa Tomei, Olya Zueva, Tatyana Zbirovskaya, Jason Stuart, Darren E. Burrows, Charlie Tahan and Harriet Sansom Harris and was directed by Ira Sachs.'Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods'Directed by Louis Clichy and Alexandre Astier, the French-Belgian co-production "Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods" is the only animated film coming to Turkish theaters this week. In order to get rid of the Gauls for good, Caesar plans to absorb the villagers into Roman culture by having an estate built next to the Gaulish village to start a new Roman colony. Although Asterix and Obelix do everything in their power to stop the construction, the Romans begin to slowly take hold of the village.
