Suggestions for art from young artists

Curated by Professor M. Reşat Başar, nine artists who engaged in different forms of art during their university years intend to introduce new approaches to contemporary art with the exhibition "Doku'z" (Nine). The exhibition takes its name from the number of artists being showcased at the exhibition, and features the use of painting, ceramics, graphics, fashion and film. The exhibition displays the artists' unique examples in their own area of specialization. For instance, Oğuz Yaygınoğul references the challenges of daily life in his video "Kadın Sabahları" (The Mornings of Women), while Ayşe Ayyıldız criticizes world politics in her intriguing portraits made of custom designs and materials. Fatih Yıldırım discusses the selfishness of human beings in his portrait photos, while Çağrı Duvar, who has a background in film, emphasizes the lack of empathy in society with his video installation entitled "Sakız" (Chewing Gum). Also specializing in film, Dilara Ela Özdemir criticizes shopping malls, and Abulimiti Xıakebanu, the exhibition's only foreign artist, references ethnic and political structures by incorporating the traditional clothing of Uighur people. Dilan Dağhan's corroded ceramic plaques demonstrate an anti-war sensitivity, while artist Batuhan Çankır emphasizes social hierarchy in his shoe designs. The ninth artist, Emine Yıldız, designed cloth babies to demonstrate how people destroy their future with technology. The exhibition will run to February 4 at the Beşiktaş Art Gallery of Istanbul Aydın University.
