Ankara International Film Fest announces jury members

Acclaimed Turkish director Tayfun Pirselimoğlu, the multi-award winner actor Mert Fırat and actress Belçim Birgin are amongst the names announced as jury over the weekend



ANKARA — Organized by the World Mass Media Research Foundation, the 25th Ankara International Film Festival, will take place between June 5 and 15 in Ankara. Under the main sponsorship of Halkbank and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the festival will hand out gongs in feature, short and documentary film sections. The national feature film competition jury will include director Tayfun Pirselimoğlu, actress Belçim Birgin, actor Mert Fırat, lecturer Ali Karadoğan and Greek cinematographer Andreas Sinanos. The Best Film Award will be presented by the jury of the Turkish Film Critics Association (SİYAD). The festival will feature 57 fictional, experimental and animation films as a part of the national short film competition. Within the documentary film section, 11 productions will compete for 27 different awards.The award ceremony will be held on June 15, the final day of the festival, at the Presidential Symphony Orchestrate. More than 30 film applications were received for the "national feature film" competition. The pre-selection jury consisting of Professor Seçil Büker, Professor Oğuz Onaran and İrfan Demirkol selected 10 films as follows: "Kusursuzlar" (The Impeccables), "Cennetten Kovulmak" (The Fall from Heaven), "Mavi Dalga" (Blue Wave), and "Bi Küçük Eylül Meselesi "(A Small September Affair),"Şarkı Söyleyen Kadınlar "(Singing Women),"Bir Varmış Bir Yokmuş"(Once upon a Time),"7 Daire" (Seven Apartments), "Gözümün Nuru" (Eye Am), "Özür Dilerim" (Forgive Me) and "Üç Yol" (Crossroads). The national feature film competition awards are offered in 13 different categories. Directed by Ramin Matin, the Impeccables stars Esra Bezen Bilgin, İpek Türktan Kaynak, İbrahim Selim, Mehmet Ali Nuroğlu, Suna Selen and Melih Düzenli was given the best film and director awards along with the SİYAD best film award .Ezgi Asaroğlulu, Rojin Tekin, Jülide Kural, Gülistan Acet, Bünyamin Kavrut, Aziz Çapkurt, Mirza Metin, Alan Ciwan, Hilmi Demirer and Yavuz Çetin starred in the Fall from Heaven. Directed by Ferit Karahan, the film shared the best film award with the Impeccables at the 50th International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. The best first film award of the 50th International Orange Film Festival went to Blue Wave directed by Zeynep Dadak and Merve Kayan. Starring Ayris Alptekin, Onur Saylak, Barış Hacıhan, Albine Özden, Nazlı Bulum and Begüm Akkaya, the film was also presented with the best screenplay and fiction film.A Small September Affair was directed by Kerem Deren and starred Farah Zeynep Abdullah, Engin Akyürek, Ceren Moray and Onur Tuna. Reha Erdem's Singing Women was offered the best fiction award at the 33rd Istanbul Film Festival. The film cast includes Binnur Kaya, Philip Arditti, Kevork Malikyan, Deniz Hasgüler, Vedat Erincin and Aylin Aslım.Once Upon A Time was awarded with the special jury and FIPRESCI prizes at the 33rd Istanbul Film Festival. Directed by Kazım Öz, the film was screened by Saim Çalar, Gamze Çalar, İsmehan Çalar, Şemsihan Çalar, Ferhat Çalar, Dilber Çalar, Derya Çalar, Recep Mertoğlu and Cengiz Kanat. Seventh Flat was awarded the best film and director at the 20th International Golden Boll Film Festival. Atıl İnanç's film was featured by Fatih Al, Nazan Kesal, Erol Babaoğlu and Selen Uçer.Directed by Hakkı Kurtuluş and Melik Saraçoğlu, Eye Am is another production awarded with the best film, screenplay and fiction at the 20th International Golden Boll Film Festival. Forgive Me by Cemil Ağacıklıoğlu, which stars Güven Kıraç, Sema Poyraz, Köksal Engür, Deniz Denker and Gökhan Kıraç, was presented the best actress award at the 32th Istanbul Film Festival. Starring Kristina Krepela, Nik Xhelilaj, Turgay Aydın, Faketa Salihbegovic, Rıza Akın and Alma Terzic, the Crossroad was offered the Association of Literature, Art and Culture Research Association (ESKADER) best film award. The film was directed by Faysal Soysal.
