Luxury taxis hit Istanbul streets

A new luxury taxi service that aims to provide a more comfortable experience for customers hit Istanbul streets Tuesday.

The service was launched by the Ataturk Airport Taxi Drivers Cooperative.

The specially designed taxis will have the capacity for nine passengers and come equipped a mini-bar.

They will cost twice as much as normal taxis.

The cooperative said it started the luxury taxi service to counter unlicensed taxis.

"Our aim is to fight Uber and unlicensed taxis. We also want to prevent taxi drivers from charging unfair prices," Lami As, a luxury taxi driver told Anadolu Agency.
