Al Jazeera Türk (AJT), which is a network of the Middle Eastern multinational multimedia conglomerate Al Jazeera Media, has announced that it will no longer be operating its Turkish news site as of May 3.
In a written statement published Wednesday on the official website, Al Jazeera said that its Turkish network would stop all activities due to the company's labor optimization efforts.
The statement also underlined that Turkey would continue to be of great importance in Al Jazeera's news policy, adding that the company would keep publishing current news and opinions regarding Turkey.
Qatari funded Al Jazeera Türk launched its news activities in Turkey with a website, digital magazine, mobile application and social media accounts in early 2014. The network was operated by News Coordinator Gürkan Zengin and employed over 50 people.
