Tender for 1915 Çanakkale Bridge starts
The Malkara-Çanakkale section of the Kınalı-Tekirdağ-Çanakkale-Savaştepe highway project, including the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, has been put out to tender to be constructed through a build-operate-transfer model.
According to the tender notice issued in the official gazette, the bid security was determined to be TL 100 million and the tender is scheduled for Jan. 26, 2017. The foundations of the bridge are expected to be laid out on March 18, 2017.
Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said the bridge will cost nearly TL 10 billion with the exception of financial costs, continuing that the bidders setting the shortest period of construction will win the tender. Contracting companies from Japan, Korea, China and Turkey are taking interest in the project.
The 1915 Çanakkale Suspension Bridge will be the world's longest bridge with a central span of 2,023 meters in accordance with the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. The suspension bridge will be built between the Lapseki and Gelibolu districts of Çanakkale so as not to disturb the archaeological sites in the region. The 45-kilometer-long highway, spanning a route from the district of Gelibolu to Malkara in Tekirdağ, will be constructed as part of the bridge's bidding as well, and the road will be later connected to the Istanbul-İzmir Highway in the Savaştepe district of Balıkesir and exit from Kınalı in the north.
