Football fans around the world know him as "el Turco" and Turkish fans take pride in one of their own being at the world-famous football club FC Barcelona. Along with his successful football career, Arda Turan has now started a collaboration with one of the leading Turkish petroleum companies OPET, becoming involved in their advertising campaigns. The contract includes two separate commercials in Barcelona and Istanbul. The first part "One Day in Barcelona" premiered in Barcelona with OPET General Director Cüneyt Ağca and Arda Turan in attendance.
In the commercial, the football star tells of his longing for his country and talks about OPET's high quality service. Recalling that they were the Turkish national football team's main sponsor, Ağca said: "We, as the whole country, are proud of the fact that he is playing at the most powerful club in the history of football. Since we are a Turkish brand with great goals, we match really well with Arda. That's why we made him this offer."
Turan said that he accepted the offer because OPET was a success-oriented firm with a similar line of thinking. "I am quite happy about the collaboration. We have good harmony, and it was the right agreement to make." Turan said, adding that Barcelona sponsorship of Turkish brands such as Beko and Lassa "pleased" him.
Ağca said that OPET preserved its 17.7 percent-market share during the first month of 2016. When asked if they had any plans for expansion to Europe, Ağca answered that they did not have solid plans yet, and recalled Koç Holdings foreign expansion strategy. "This strategy is applicable for us as well. If we want to expand outside the country, we want to do this in the best way possible. Let's say, we are thinking about it." Ağca said.
