Hazar Strategy Institute's Energy Center expert Fatih Macit noted that after the lifting of sanctions on Iran, it will focus further on and invest more in the petrochemical sector, increasing its capacity.
Macit says Turkey should carefully watch these developments, as Turkey is still dependent on petrochemical imports. Macit adds that this dependency may increase as the producers of plastic, rubber, et cetera - the downstream side of petro chemistry - depend on using cheap raw materials.
"However there is something else to consider. Iran invests in raw petrochemical materials, but they will soon be investing in the downstream side as well," said Macit, who warns against Turkey losing market in this respect, saying that measures should be taken to prevent such loss of market share.
