Mining and quarrying index up 11.3 pct in Dec


The seasonally and calendar-adjusted total industrial turnover index increased 0.5 percent in December 2015 compared with the previous month, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).Taking 2010 as the base year, the highest increase was achieved by the mining and quarrying index with 11.3 percent, followed by the manufacturing index with 0.2 percent in December 2015, compared with the previous month. On the seasonally and calendar-adjusted main industrial groupings the largest increase was in durable consumer goods. According to the main industrial groupings (MIGs) classification, the largest increase was in durable consumer goods, up 7.8 percent in December of 2015, compared with the previous month.In the fourth quarter of 2015, the seasonally and calendar-adjusted total industrial turnover index increased 0.6 percent compared with the previous quarter. In addition, TurkStat also announced that the overall export unit value index decreased 10.9 percent in December 2015, compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. Accordingly, in December, compared to the same month of 2014, the index for food, beverages and tobacco, crude materials except fuels, fuels and manufactured goods except food, beverages and tobacco decreased 10.7 percent, 13.2 percent, 35.6 percent and 9.1 percent, respectively.The overall export unit value index decreased 10.9 percent in the fourth quarter of 2015 compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The overall import unit value index decreased 17.1 percent compared with the corresponding month of the preceding year. Accordingly, the index for food, beverages and tobacco, crude materials except fuels, fuels and manufactured goods except food, beverages and tobacco decreased 11 percent, 20.4 percent, 40.6 percent and 7.7 percent, respectively. The overall import unit value index decreased 16.9 percent in the fourth quarter of 2015, compared to the corresponding quarter of the preceding year.
