Turkey's leading airport operator, TAV Airports has plans to pursue new projects in South Asia and Iran, TAV's CEO Sani Sener told Anadolu Agency on Wednesday."We consider the whole world as a market, and we particularly pursue projects in South Asia," Sener said.He added: "In compliance with our new strategy to achieve vertical growth together with our service companies, we also pursue projects in North America and also Africa. I believe Iran will also be a good market."Sener sees his company TAV expanding successfully in global markets."We take risks that we can manage. The strategy of TAV is very clear when it comes to risk. We never try to undertake a project beyond our financial and operational capacity," Sener said.Recently, TAV, in a joint venture with Arabtec, won the tender for the construction of the $1.1 billion construction of a new terminal building and other related works at Bahrain's International Airport.Sener said that geographical and cultural proximities lead the company to expand in the Middle East."Bahrain will be the fifth airport construction project of TAV Construction undertaken in the Gulf region. Our reputation and popularity have increased in the region," Sener said."In order to win large-scale projects, the company should have strong technical and human resources. Our engineers, operators and financiers are experts in their fields. Our technical skill is high and we place the utmost importance on R&D and the continuous training of our employees. Of course, the successful partnerships that we have established so far carried us to our current position," he added.Sener noted that there are some restrictions on investments in the Middle East due to current economic situation, which is dominated by low oil prices."We do not have any problems abroad, particularly in the Middle East. There can be some overdue payments; however we know that we always get paid eventually. The administrations in the Middle East region are always very sensitive about budgeting and payment issues. However I should also mention that due to the current conditions they have started to apply some restrictions in their investments," he said.Commenting on strained relations between Russia and Turkey after Turkish forces shot down a Russian jet fighter on Nov. 24 which violated Turkish airspace despite repeated warnings, Sener said that Russia and Turkey are dependent on each other."I have clear-cut views on Russia. I think Russia and Turkey are dependent on each other, because they are strategically in the same region. Therefore, I don't think the problem will last longer. The geography of our country is a bit problematic but very valuable. After solving these problems, I believe the commerce and business volume of Turkey with the countries in the region will expand more."TAV operates two of Turkey's busiest airports; Istanbul Ataturk and Ankara Esenboga as well as Izmir Adnan Menderes, Gazipasa Alanya and Milas Bodrum Airports. It also operates Tbilisi and Batumi Airports in Georgia; Monastir and Enfidha-Hamammet Airports in Tunisia; Skopje and Ohrid Airports in Macedonia, Medinah Airport in Saudi Arabia and Zagreb Airport in Croatia. TAV is also active in other areas of airport operations including duty free, food and beverage, ground handling, IT, and security and operation services.
