Galatasaray to get Fenerbahçe's share of UEFA money

Shakthar Donetsk weren't the only winners in the Champions League playoff stage elimination of Fenerbahçe as Galatasaray will receive a payment in the region of 5 million euros from UEFA. UEFA distributes a part of their revenue to the competing clubs, and this is made according to two criteria: Payments in fixed amounts and market pool shares. Fixed amounts category depends on how far the club progresses in the competition, while the distribution in the market pool category is made in proportion with the value of each football association's TV market. The payment from the latter category is then to be split among the association's participant clubs that make it to the group stage. Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe are the only Champions Cup participants from the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) and now that Fenerbahçe is out of the competition, Galatasaray will receive all the market pool distribution that is designated to the TFF. This amount is believed to be more than 10 million euros for this season. UEFA forecasts distributing a total amount of 1.257 billion euros to clubs competing in the Champions League, allocating 724.4 million euros as fixed payments and 482.9 million euros as market pool payments.
