Türk Telekom tops 500 informatics companies list


"The Informatics 500 Award Ceremony," held for the 16th time this year, has determined Turkey's leading companies operating in the informatics sector. As far as the net sales profits of companies are concerned, Türk Telekom ranked first in 2014, followed by Turkcell and Vodafone. According to the "Top 500 Informatics Companies" survey conducted by M2S Research and Marketing Services, Teknosa was chosen as the leading company in information technologies, while Türk Telekom came in first among communication technologies.Companies were awarded with plaques in nine categories, including their revenues from software, hardware and services as well as their spheres of activity. The 10 companies that topped the list are: Türk Telekom, Turkcell, Vodafone, Teknosa, Gen-pa, İndeks Bilgisayar, KVK, Brightstar, Penta and Hewlett-Packard. The movers and shakers of informatics that have engaged in the sector for over 35 years were also presented with a plaque entitled "35-year Endeavour in Turkish Information Sector."Tayfun Acarer, former president of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), suggested that mobile infrastructural investment should be increased and research & development (R&D) activities should be given priority, during the award ceremony to which he was invited as guest of honor. Özlem Unan, the general manager of M2S Research and Marketing Services, said they estimate that the information technologies market will grow by 15 percent and the communication technologies market will grow by 11 percent in 2015, adding that improvement in the sector was pleasing but far from sufficient. The Turkish informatics market grew by 12.1 percent, reaching TL 69.4 billion. Communication technologies constituted TL 48.9 billion, and information technologies constituted TL 20.4 billion of the total size. Exports in the informatics sector exceeded TL 1 million.
