Chinese authorities have requested cooperation from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to fight unlicensed street vendors and peddlers. According to an announcement from the Union of Municipalities of the Marmara Region, a committee presided over by China's Deputy Mayor for the Yu Xi Metropolitan Municipality, Ding Wen Xian, visited Istanbul in order to improve social, cultural and economic relations along with observing methods and applications applied to combat street vendors and peddlers. During the visit, the committee also held a meeting with the Union of Municipalities of the Marmara Region and was welcomed by the secretary of the union, Cemil Arslan, who provided information on its purpose and activities. Zeng Kui, the deputy mayor of the Hong Ta district, which accounts for the economic income of the province of Yu Xi, is also included in the committee and said they observed the success Istanbul achieved in its struggle against street vendors and peddlers and that in the Yu Xi region's avenues and squares and they were having hard time dealing with unlicensed street vendors. "Istanbul has achieved a great success in this fight. Many streets, avenues and squares are clear of street vendors and peddlers. We would like to implement the model Istanbul has applied in cooperation with the Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul," Kui said.
