The amounts accumulating in term deposit accounts and the Individual Pension Systems (BES) of real persons has increased by TL 56 billion ($25.52 billion) when compared to last year. Putting this in perspective, 12 bridges over the Bosporus, seven Marmaray submarine tunnels and one nuclear power plant servicing Akkuyu to Sinop could be built with this amount. Furthermore, the cost of the third airport project in Istanbul can be covered twice over. According to the calculations of the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) and Pension Monitoring Center (EGM), as of Oct. 17, the term deposits of real persons has increased by TL 49 billion from TL 437 billion to TL 486.1 billion when compared to the year-end of 2013. Again the deposits accumulating in the BES funds of the participants have increased by TL 6.5 billion from TL 25.1 billion to TL 31.7 billion.
