Turkey within top-5 most expensive countries
Turkey is among the most expensive countries in the world because its meat, gasoline and Internet prices. Requesting technological gadgets from acquaintances traveling abroad, comparing gasoline prices with those in other countries and working for low wages are only a few of the cases that Turkish citizens experience. Despite being assertive about its livestock industry, a kilogram of meat is TL 30 ($13.42) and a liter of gasoline is TL 5 ($2.24). Pointing to the relatively high cost of living in Turkey, Emre Alkin, professor of economics at Istanbul Kemerburgaz University, said producers cannot derive sufficient profit and consumers pay higher fees. "As a country, we use the most expensive Internet, mobile phone services, gasoline and meat. The high cost of goods and services in Turkey is related to the high tax rates and broker agents between producers and consumers. As such, neither the farmer nor the consumer is happy, but brokers make significant amounts of money.." he added.
