Food sector in surplus in January

Turkey's food exports were $1.58 billion dollars in January, easily exceeding the $940 million in imports, resulting in foreign trade surplus of $640.6 million. Exports increased by 12.3 percent in a month, a sector official said.



General Director of the Union of Chambers of Agriculture (TZOB), Şemsi Bayraktar stated that January exports in the food and agriculture sector reached $1.58 billion, with $940 million in imports. He also noted that a $640.6 million of foreign trade surplus was created in the same sector in January.Bayraktar expressed that export in food and agriculture increased by 12.3 percent compared to the same month of the previous year rising to nearly $1.6 billion from over $1.40 billion. Import rates dropped by 0.8 percent down to approximately $940 million from nearly $948 million. The Director informed that the general export increased by 8.6 percent in January and rose to nearly $12.473 billion from approximately $11.48 billion. He also noted that the general import increased by 2.6 percent, rising to almost $19.3 billion from over $18.8 billion.Ankara (İHA)
