Turkish author Sabahattin Ali's 1943 novel "Kürk Mantolu Madonna" (Madonna in a Fur Coat), whose first edition has been a bestseller for 70 years, will be adapted onto the silver screen.The copyrights of the novel are reported to be purchased by Ay Production and the script of the film will be written by Ece Yörenç, who previously wrote the scripts for the screen adaptations of Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil's "Aşk-ı Memnu" (Forbidden Love) and Reşat Nuri Güntekin's "Yaprak Dökümü" (The Falling Leaves). The adaptation of "Madonna in Fur Coat" will be the eighth screen adaptation of Ali's distinguished work.Penguin Classics published an English translation of Turkish novelist Sabahattin Ali's best-selling novel "Kürk Mantolu Madonna" and in last March Ali's novel was translated into English by Maureen Freely and Alexander Dawe.The book is about a shy young man who leaves his home in rural Turkey to learn a trade in 1920s Berlin.
