The Turkish national women's basketball team will play against Greece in the quarterfinals of the FIBA EuroBasket Women tournament. The FIBA EuroBasket Women's tournament started on June 16 in the Czech Republic.
The game will be played in Prag Arena at 4 p.m. local time. The Red-Whites have not lost a match in the group stages, beating Slovakia, Italy and Belarus. Although Greece finished the group stages in the third spot they managed to advance to the quarterfinals. They beat Serbia in Group D but lost to France and Slovenia. Thanks to the average, they were ranked third and advanced to the second stage. And they beat Russia who finished Group D in second spot, 62-58 and advanced to the quarterfinals. If the national team win against Greece they will advance to the semifinals and secure participation in the World Basketball Championships, to be held in Spain next year.
In order for a team to participate in the world championship it has to be ranked in the first five spots. If the host Spain is ranked in the first five spots, the sixth team in the Women's EuroBasket Championship will be able to join the World Championships because the hosts Spain will be able to join automatically. If Turkey lose in the quarterfinals, they will have still hopes for the World Championship because they will play in the fifth-sixth team match. Turkey will play against Greece for the second time in women's basketball. The Red-Whites beat Greece 61-50 in the 2015 Women's EuroBasket Championship.
