Increase in automobiles exceeds growing budget


While Turkey's income per capita has increased by 48.6 percent in the last 10 years, the number of vehicles on the roads has also surged by 68.9 percent. The number of automobiles on the roads was also up by 70.8 percent in the same time period. According to data collected from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) by Anadolu Agency, Turkey's income per capita reached $10,480 in 2014 from $7,053 in 2005, increasing by 48.6 percent. The increase in the number of vehicles on the roads has exceeded the increase in income per capita between 2005 and 2014. While there were only 11.1 million vehicles on the roads in 2005, this number reached 19.4 million in June 2015. The number of vehicles per person has also risen in 10 years. While it was 6.1 persons per vehicle in 2005, this figure was 4.1 in 2014. On the other hand, while it was 12 persons in 2005, this figure was 7.6 in June 2015. The number of cars on the roads reached 9.8 million in 2014, increasing by 70.8 percent.
