Turkey a promising market for electric buses

ISTANBUL — Isbrand Ho, managing director responsible for Europe at the Chinese electrical car and bus manufacturing company BYD, said Turkey is an appealing country for future investments. "Turkey has great infrastructure and industrial facilities, which can support our production as well," said Ho. "We are looking more to the Turkish market and consider it as our next production base." Ho noted the cost of owning an electrical bus is quite high compared with the conventional diesel buses, but once energy savings, low carbon emission rates and longevity of electric buses are taken into account, they became more attractive. Highlighting that electric buses are widely in use in Europe, Ho expects electric buses will dominate roads worldwide in the near future. Ho further said BYD delivered 700 units of electric buses in 2013 and the number will reach 5,000 units in 2014.
