The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 6.1-magnitude earthquake off Japan late Monday.
The quake was reported just after 2 a.m. Tuesday morning local time (1700 GMT Monday), 984 kilometers (611 miles) north of Tokyo. It was west of Hokkaido island.
The depth was reported at 236 kilometers.
There is no current tsunami warning from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
Whereas a 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia on Monday, around 330 km (205 miles) north-northwest of Molucca islands, the U.S. Geological Survey also said.
The USGS said the quake was 102 km deep.
