Thai cultural events kick off at Grand Pera


Grand Pera, one of the most important historic buildings on Beyoğlu's İstiklal Avenue, is hosting a Thai Movie Week and Thai cultural events as part of the 2018 Turkey-Thailand Year of Culture. The events were inaugurated on Friday, Sept. 28, by Thai Culture Minister Vira Rojpojchanarat, Turkish Culture and Tourism Deputy Minister Ömer Arısoy and Turkish Culture and Tourism Ministry Cinema General Manager Erkin Yılmaz. The program will host traditional Thai music and dance performances, fashion presentations, traditional puppet theater shows, photo exhibitions and film screenings.

To mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Thailand, the year 2018 is being celebrated as the Turkey-Thailand Year of Culture. On the occasion, various events are being held in Turkey under the framework of the Declaration of Intent on the Year of Culture signed between the Ministries of Culture of the two countries. The cultural events will also be held in İzmir and Ankara. At Istanbul's Grand Pera the Thai Movie Week was held between Sept. 28 and Oct. 2. Thai Culture Events will be held from Oct. 5 to Oct. 7. Prominent Thai movies, including "The Legend of Muay Thai: 9 Satra," "The Songs of Rice," "Serd," "Bad Genius," "Siam Square" and "Santi-Vina," will be screened at the festival. The film screenings are open to all.

The Thai Cultural Events will showcase some beautiful theater activities, dances, puppet shows, and Muay Thai performances on Friday, Oct. 5 at Grand Pera's Emek Stage. A Thai fashion show will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Cercle d'Orient building.
