Exhibition questions art's reaction to visual culture

"Sweet Little Lies," an exhibition which emerged as contemporary art's reaction to visual culture, opened on May 10 and can be visited until June 30.

Organized by Istanbul Ayvansaray University's Plato Sanat, Sweet Little Lies focuses on the situation of today's visual culture and how the contemporary art reacts to it. The exhibition aims to provide a different perspective regarding images that have emerged in the current consumption culture.

The exhibition, which brings "lies" together, looks to show that all the images around us are essentially fictional and artists show that no image tells the absolute truth.

The display features photos embedded in tin cans, city models, portraits promising to show identity, videos asserting the claim of mirror truth, empty billboards and newly coined words, a fake-looking world, a strange kaleidoscope, which leads audience to question their own perception. Even though artists of the exhibition - including Mert Acar, Ozan Atalan, Zeynep Beler, Elif Biradlı, Tutku Bulutbeyaz, Antonio Consentino, Yunus Emre Erdoğan, Ekin Saçlıoğlu, Berkay Tuncay, Egemen Tuncer, Berkay Yahya and Sergen Şehitoğlu - refer to given truths, they mainly reveal the fictional aspects of works.

Prepared by curator professor Dr. Marcus Graf, the exhibition touches upon many concepts from thought to langue, vision to lies, and concept to illusion.
