Turkish drama ‘Kara Sevda’ wins ‘Best Telenovela’ at International Emmy Awards

Turkish drama series 'Kara Sevda' (Endless Love) won Best Telenovela at the 45th International Emmy Awards on Monday.

The series, produced by Ay Yapım, has become the first ever Turkish production to win the prestigious award.

Kara Sevda's director Hilal Saral, scenarist Burcu Görgün Toptaş and Ay Yapım CEO Kerem Çatay accepted the award at a ceremony in New York.

The Turkish series won over French-language Canadian series 30 Vies: Isabelle Cousineau (30 lives) and Brazilian programs Totalmente Demais (Total Dreamer) and Velho Chico (Old River).

Starring Burak Özçivit (Kemal), Neslihan Atagül (Nihan) and Kaan Urgancıoğlu (Emir), Kara Sevda has gained considerable popularity internationally and has been dubbed in multiple languages, including Italian, Persian, Spanish, and Arabic.

The 74-episode series premiered October 2015 and ran until June 2017, and was broadcasted in more than 60 countries.
