‘Encounters' art exhibition puts university art students in spotlight

Having collaborated with young artists since its foundation, Pera Museum is now presenting an interdisciplinary exhibition combining works by art students working in various genres such as painting, sculpture, digital arts and many others



Known for its collaborations with young artists, national and international universities and art institutions, the Pera Museum presents a selection of works by students from Akdeniz University's Faculty of Fine Arts, which has provided art education since 1999. The exhibition titled, "Encounters" awaits visitors until Oct. 16. While "Encounters" focuses on the artworks produced in Antalya, a city which stands out for its urban structure, history and atmosphere, the exhibition also offers concrete references to Antalya's rich cultural background as well as urban texture.The exhibition, curated by Ebru Nalan Sülün under the guidance of assessments conducted by the Faculty of Fine Arts' selective community, brings together the works of students of the university's departments of painting, graphic design, photography, traditional arts and film. Curator Sülün said that they aimed to use an exhibition method that shows the aesthetic transformation artwork undergoes using different thematic approaches while focusing on the permeability of artwork from various disciplines. Specifically, the themes of "The Metamorphosis of the Body," "Abstraction," "Conceptual Approaches," "Digital Universe-Publicity," and "Documentary" are the thematic forces behind "Encounters."The collection united under the theme of "The Metamorphosis of the Body" approach the problematic challenges of using the body in art while "Abstraction" visualizes the aesthetic transformation of abstract art. On the other hand, "Conceptual Approaches" focuses on conceptual art from various artistic perspectives; especially that of ready-made artwork. "Digital Universe-Publicity," which focuses on works by students from the Department of Photography and Traditional Arts, exhibits works of the same discipline which feature various content and interpretations. The section "Documentary," which focuses on the narration of photography and film, brings the different perception methods and the process of art production to the fore.The exhibition "Encounters," featuring roughly 70 artworks by 62 young artists, offers a wide range of artwork which allow the viewer to observe the various methods and intellectual processes of the prospective artists trained in Akdeniz University's Faculty of Fine Arts.
